A new NIEHS-funded study reports that when a pregnant woman is exposed to chlorpyrifos, a commonly used pesticide, her child’s developing brain may be damaged, leading to lowered intelligence.

“The prenatal period is a vulnerable time for the developing child, and that toxic exposure during this critical period can have far-reaching effects on brain development and behavioral functioning,” said NIEHS grantee Virginia Rauh, Sc.D., a professor at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. “We have demonstrated that there is a relatively monotonic dose-response effect, suggesting that some small effects occur at even very low exposures.”

The evidence comes from researchers who conducted a recent brain imaging study of children exposed prenatally to chlorpyrifos. In addition to Columbia University scientists, the team included researchers affiliated with Duke University Medical Center, Emory University, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. ...

Normally I wouldn't even waste my time on imbeciles like "My hovercraft is full of eels", but I suppose I found it hard to believe that ANYONE could be THAT ignorant.

This anonymous coward actually credited GMOs for extending our life expectancy while it's ACTUALLY going down!

"Nothing to do with harmless GMOs or highly beneficial vaccinations. A life expectancy of 78 is a 50% increase in only a hundred years."

And that is just so typical for trolls, completely ignoring reality.

I have hosted several young people with terrible allergies. One was 20 years old and couldn't eat anything with gluten, corn, soy, peanuts, tree nuts ... He had a burger at a local restaurant and was stuck in the bathroom for 6 hours the next day. Restaurants around here use the cheapest oil they can find: corn, soy, canola -- all GMO. And that's what made him so sick.

Of course it's not just the GMOs causing painful chronic gut problems and all sorts of "new" autoimmune diseases, but vaccines, pesticides and herbicides are all part of the problem.

I just watched Episode 2 of The Human Longevity Project, a very well done documentary.

It is quite scientific and I learned a lot. Of course Eel gal didn't even watch it and judging by her comments, has an IQ below 70 and wouldn't have understood most of the issues discussed by the doctors and experts.

https://humanlongevityfilm.com/

Free this week and I hope they eventually put it on Netflix, like so many other fantastic food documentaries.

It's good to see so many doctors are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and recommend organic or at least GMO free food to their patients.

Also got to watch The Food Cure recently and it is astounding how people with stage 3 cancer changed their diet to only organic veggies and they were CURED. It takes a lot of money for the organics and also supplements to help the liver (you could die from liver damage when tumors dissolve so fast). Most important is SUPPORT -- it's a full-time job to eat to get well.

It's much easier to PREVENT getting sick -- don't eat any GMOs, eat organic when you can and grow as much food as you can!

So they're from Mexico and I know that some people don't eat Mexican grown food, but I don't mind. I especially appreciate that they are Fair Trade certified. It's hard to believe that you can buy 3/4 lb for a dollar.

My own tomatoes are just finally starting to produce and I've tried a few cherry tomatoes and there's really nothing like home grown (I like acidic tomatoes), but these little romas are a great substitute.

I checked out http://divineflavor.com and it looks like Mexico is serious about food safety and producing high quality produce for the American market.

... Dr. Michael Hansen, a Senior Scientist at Consumers Union, the policy arm of Consumer Reports, wrote, “While genome editing has been portrayed in the media as an incredibly precise process, where one can go in and literally only intentionally change one or a small number of nucleotide bases, the reality is that there can be large numbers of off-target effects.” He says, “This study raises troubling concerns.”

Another recently published study in Nature Communications used CRISPR/Cas9 to make 17 edits in the mouse genome. They too sequenced the genome and found unexpected insertions and deletions in all 17 places. Whereas deletions of approximately 9 base pairs are predicted, the actual size of the deletions was as high as 600 base pairs. No computer model predicts DNA damage this extensive.

A third study published this year also found deletions of more than 500 base units. The researchers also confirmed that proteins produced by these mutated sections were altered. Such changes could theoretically transform a beneficial protein to a harmful one. ...

The benefits of rhizobacteria were even greater in plants grown in a drought compared to their well-watered counterparts. ...

Dr. Kevin Folta just doesn't know when to quit!

From Kevin Folta in bed with fake nurse:

At the end of last year, the University of Florida scientist Kevin Folta promoted a new Twitter account called @askepticalnurse (see image above).

What happened next is chronicled in Unhealthy Advice: The Mysterious Case of the Disappearing Nurse.

The long and the short of it is that Folta's “nurse” turned out to be someone who has worked as a “cosmetologist” - someone trained in hairdressing, nail care or makeup - with a delinquent licence as a nursing assistant.

When her identity and lack of nursing qualifications were flagged up on Twitter, some rapid housecleaning led to the deletion of a whole series of related social media accounts.

Why the panic? The trail of the unqualified nurse leads directly to Kevin Folta's door.

@askepticalnurse is Roxanne Porozinski who, it turns out, has had a hairdressing business at an address she shares with Folta. Roxanne and Folta also go to the same dojo and are in the same cycling club.

Also listed at exactly the same address is one “Roxanne Folta”. As it is a little improbable Kevin Folta would be cohabiting with two women called Roxanne, it seems a reasonable assumption that Roxanne Porozinski and Roxanne Folta are one and the same.

....

How can the university condone this?

A sign of the times and just goes to prove how corrupt universities are.
